CHARITY CELEBRATES FUNDS FROM FUN PACKED DINNER DANCE
Over 240 people flocked to a charity dinner in aid of The Family Haven. The event which raised the grand sum of £5,500 was held on the 29th March 2008 at the Hospitality Suite at Gloucester Rugby Club. Guests were welcomed by 'Mini-Nick', actor and guest compere. A 3 course meal was followed by a raffle and auction. Guest were entertained by Swing Soul and Motown performer Riccardo after there was a disco into the early hours.
There was enthusiastic bidding from the crowd as guest vied for auction lots ranging from a £500 diamond ring, flights to New York, tea for two at The Ritz and various signed celebrity memorabilia and even a night-dress donated by Barbara Windsor.
Charity representatives included the Very Reverend Nick Bury and his wife Jennifer, Doreen McLellan and her husband Councillor Philip McLellan, Gillian and Nicholas Lunn, David and Anne Mustarde and Lorraine Barrett.
Claire McGrath said: " It was a fantastic evening and I am amazed at how much was raised. This is due to the generosity of local businesses, all of those who attended and of course Tony Bowden who worked so hard in putting together a wonderful evening.
Tony Bowden of www.greatparty.org commented " We appreciate the hard work that the Family Haven does to provide much needed help and support to local families. It's a wonderful local charity which does a wonderful job and we were delighted that we could help them to raise funds".
The charity's patron Kate Winslet was unable to attend due to filming commitments but hopes to visit the centre in Spa Road during the summer.
