We need to raise £20,275 to fund the Programme for 2009 - 2010
Outreach Programme
The Family Haven has expanded and developed the Outreach Programme to work with more disadvantaged and isolated families. Our Outreach Nursery Nurse Lucy is attending Gloucester prison one afternoon a week, where she works with families as they arrive at the family centre, helping with the children as all go through security. Once actually in the visiting area, Lucy helps in the crèche, this area is designed for children to play supervised by Lucy when the parents are talking and also for the fathers to interact with the children in a "normal" play environment. The Benefit is two fold it means the prisoner can maintain, build and improve their relationship with their children and parents can talk when they need to knowing their children are happy and safe. Our qualified nursery nurse is building relationships and for local families they can also use the centre, this giving all the above services and improving their quality of life while the father is in prison. By offering this support we hope that on release the family will stay together.
Lucy also attends GARAS and The Salvation Army one morning each week. Lucy runs a Crèche at Gloucester Action for Refugees and Asylum seekers enabling parents to access services to improve the quality of their lives and in turn that of their children. The work with the Salvation Army toddler group means that parents and children are able to get most out of their time at the centre. In these services we are encouraging parents to take an active role in all our activities, many have been through such trauma that they have very low self esteem, by working with Lucy we can help parents develope and grow in confidence with their children, which then gives the children confidence and stops the parent's feelings being passed onto the children.
The Outreach Programme enabled The Family Haven to work with a further 40 families over and above the 84 we worked with at the centre last year. We would like to continue to develop the service, please help us in anyway you can to meet our target of £20,275. If you would like any further information please contact:
