Newly refurbished bathroom

Our bathroom has recently been refurbished thanks to our local community. The bathroom suite was donated by B&Q and installed by Gloucester Lions and DJ Hewer. Kate Winslet supplied the tilers and our dedicated volunteer Bill Tate painted the room.

Parenting classes

Parenting classes are a regular feature at The Family Haven. Run by Gayle Clay, Healthcare Specialist for the Homeless, and Jill Saunders, Haven Project Worker, parents have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of parenting in the familiar surroundings of The Haven. The sessions devised by Gayle and Jill are practical, informative and fun whilst encouraging client participation. Topics covered have included: Family Nutrition, Sleeping Problems, Potty Training and Child Development.

  Tasting baby food

In a recent session parents took part in a baby food tasting session - dinners and desserts from baby food manufacturers as well as homemade food. Parents then rated each dish in terms of taste, texture, etc. Parents could appreciate the superior taste of home-cooked food as well as the reduced cost —vital for families on a budget.

Our work at Gloucester Prison

We have extended our role of reaching out to needy families by helping families where a parent is in prison. Emma, Haven Nursery Nurse, has started running the Play Area in the Visiting Room at Gloucester Prison. This play area had not been running for approximately 2 years. Just imagine the stress and trauma for a child visiting a parent in prison. Children as well as adults endure long waits and body searches. Every family who visits someone in prison benefits from their children having a pleasant place to play during prison visits. The Play Area helps to alleviate some of the trauma for these children.
